
A patient-centered, combination intervention to support adherence to HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis during pregnancy and breastfeeding: a randomized pilot study in Malawi
The intervention was integrated Next Step Counseling to identify relevant needs and help participants generate their own solutions for improving, facilitating, and sustaining well-being, sexual health, and drug adherence, as well as optional engagement of an adherence supporter. Study retention remained high at both three months and six months after initiation. There were no significant differences of adherence between the intervention group and control groups at three months or six months. Fewer than 1/3 of participants had confirmed adherence of >=4 doses/week.
