Human Immunodeficiency Virus Treatment and Prevention for Pregnant and Postpartum Women in Global Settings
Review and description of current HIV prevention, specifically PMTCT, strategies in pregnant and breastfeeding women, including ART during pregnancy/breastfeeding and lifelong ART for women living with HIV, PrEP use during pregnancy/breastfeeding for women not living with HIV, and integrating other HIV prevention services with PrEP. However, more work needs to be done in implementing evidence-based practices (as listed above) in high-burden, low-resource settings. Possible strategies include integration of HIV testing with routine antenatal care, differentiated care models, and postnatal adherence clubs.
